Are your addictions causing you to overspend?

hHave you bought clothes from the shops and never worn them? Do you drink a few glasses of wine or have a few beers every night to relax after a stressful day? Do you smoke 20+ cigarettes a day because it allows you to have 5 minutes away from your desk? Do you find yourself reaching for the sugary drinks, crisps and chocolate just to get you through the day?

I have found with many clients who are always short of money despite having lots of income is that they spend their money on their additions, their escape. This was one of the main reasons I started studying psychology and learning hypnotherapy to add to my accounts training.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying life and having a glass of wine at the end of the week, having a wee snack in the afternoon, or going to the shops and treating yourself to a new outfit for a party you are going, or going out to a lovely restaurant, or buying lots of books (which is one of my mini addictions!) but you will know deep down if you are doing these things frequently in order to escape some pain.

My addictions were alcohol, sugary drinks and crisps. I would drink up to 3 cans of a fizzy high calorific drinks a day, eat at least 2 packets of crisps, and then when I got home I would drink 2 large glasses of wine over the evening. 7 days a week. Whenever I attempted to curb the fizzy drinks or crisps, I would just drink more wine at night. They were a painkiller for something I was refusing to feel in my life.

Leaving the environment that was hurting me was the first step to my recovery. But the addictions did not go away, they just lay low for a while. Asking for help and support was the next step. Ultimately the accountability always came back to me but having support just made it that little bit easier.

If you have a painkiller in your life that you no longer want to use, I highly recommend you ask for help and support to overcome your addiction. There are many great tools out there to help you and I know so many great therapists and coaches who can support you through it. And the added bonus is that it will SAVE you LOTS of MONEY! A fellow hypnotherapist identified that he saved his client £8,000 in just one year!
