Have you fallen out of love with your business?

When we are fortunate to run a  business doing what we love, we must remember that the love can go stale if it is not nourished.

When we first start our business it is hard graft but we are passionate about what we do, and if we have come from being employed we are equally passionate about making it work as the freedom that comes from being your own boss is just magical. However if we are not careful, we can end up burning the midnight oil at both ends and just like when we fall in love with someone and we see them all the time, eventually that love can go stale and we find the passion we once had has either burnt out or it is down to the embers.

It is therefore important that we make the time to take a break from our business, or we can find ourselves falling out of love with it. Regularly do something that nourishes you. That could be exercise, reading inspirational books, painting…. For me it is reading, writing , meditating, hill walking, unplugging from technology for 24 hours once a week and learning something new.

If we fail to take a break regularly, eventually we can need an even bigger break. We know we need that when we can feel the motivation to grow our business draining away and I recently experienced that. Thankfully I was given the opportunity to attend a part-time 6 month hypnotherapy course where I learnt lots about the unconscious mind and with the help of my fellow classmates I was able to shine a light on what was going on underneath my conscious awareness.  I was reminded why I went down the path I am on, why I love accounts and why I feel drawn to help people find peace within their business (especially accounts!) and their lives. I feel much more motivated about growing my business now and helping others but I also know I must regularly continue to take breaks.
