Quality versus Quantity

Officially it’s my first day back into the office after 4 weeks holiday but I came in on Friday to catch up on emails and left with a clear inbox. How fabulous was that?!

I was well impressed that all my clients behaved whilst I was off and Margaret coped remarkable well (I knew she would).

Canada was a holiday that was longer than most for a variety of reasons. The main reason was that both my partner & I turn 40 this year (Doug’s birthday was during the time we were away, mine is not until later in the year) and we wanted to celebrate.

The other two reasons were because I had not taken a break (besides Christmas) since I started writing the book in May last year, and I was overdue a holiday with my partner. For 3½ weeks I stayed away from all work emails and social media. It was bliss! 🙂

For most of my life I have worked 7 days a week, for reasons I discuss in Successful Business Minds. However as I mention in the book that is not the key to a successful business or life (or at least it wasn’t for me). However, with the excitement of having a dream come true I found myself working a tad longer than my body and mind wanted me too, yet again!

Those who know me well could see it, and as I believe in authenticity I want to tell you too so you don’t make the same mistake. Sometimes, even although we know it, we have to practice it a few more times before it really goes in. Either that, or we get a big wake-up call! It was car accident just a few days before I finished up working before my holidays, which made me see this myself, along with a few other insights!

My holiday gave me the time to have an in-depth ‘meeting of the minds’ and decide what I want and how my business is going to give me that. I talk more about this in the book, but essentially having a chat with your mind, body, heart and soul and then only taking action when they are aligned.

Most of my clients, and I, have thought we need to work hard to get results. We do. But it doesn’t mean long hours. Working hard means the quality of our time working, not the number of hours.

To have better quality working hours it means focusing on just one thing. Multi-tasking does NOT work. That means shutting out all distractions and doing the one thing that will take you closer to your end goal.

But I will let you in on a secret. I don’t believe the end goal is tangible. I believe it’s about how you want to live your life and what kind of person you want to be. Once you get that, every decision you make will be so much easier.

You may even find yourself clearing out and replying to 4 weeks of emails in just one day.
