Why we all love feedback and what to do when we’re not getting it

believeI have always known I wanted to write books, ever since that moment when my gran introduced me to them. I love everything about them. The smell, the feel, the excitement of a story, learning something new and oh so much more. Ironically words can’t quite adequately describe it…

But I never knew just how hard it would be to write one.

There were moments when I was dangerously close to chucking it all in. If it wasn’t for my regular catch ups with my book coach, I know I would have given up. I know, because I did so many times before I met her, hence the reason I knew I needed her!

Our goals can be as intrinsic and overflowing with a sense of just wanting to help others but deep down we are human and we look for something external to help us along; something to keep us motivated and know we are fulfilling our purpose.

Many business owners know they are doing something amazing and helping others and/or bringing smiles to their customers face when the package they send arrives. Yet, that’s not enough on those tough days – those days when no sales or bookings have come through. They start to doubt themselves. They question everything they are doing and start copying others. They may even consider taking a part-time (or full-time!) job.

Sound familiar?

I experienced this in my business at the start and I share my experience in Succesful Business Minds, amongst others. Thankfully before I did anything rash, I realised I wasn’t being me. I wasn’t listening to what I wanted. I wasn’t aligning my 4 minds. I now teach this to my coaching clients, in my workshops and to the reader through Successful Business Minds. I know it’s hard to take control and take responsibility in your business. I know it’s difficult to trust what is unfolding. I know it’s challenging to reach out and ask for help. I know these things because I too experienced the same.

A lot of our fears and doubts are when we are not trusting or when we’re thinking we’re not capable. So start with something small. It will only change if you take the reins. It will improve if you ask for help. It will get better if you allow it to.

I was on a high from publishing the book in April and impatient to get sales and reviews to remind me that I had written a good book. Then I went on holiday and relaxed. I came back refreshed and a sense of everything will be ok if I just trust in myself. I had listened to my 4 minds intensively during my holiday. No input from anyone else, just me. The more I trusted what I wanted, the more confident I became. When I returned home I joined a tennis club full of strangers and went along to social tennis nights (a bit like a blind date but for playing tennis!). For an introvert this is a massive achievement!

Through this confidence and continuing to have time offline listening to my 4 minds I am making bigger and bolder steps to fulfil my purpose and my 4 minds are all happy with that. My business is busy, I’m having some great conversations with clients, I am collaborating with other accountants and coaches, sales for the book are drip feeding in and I am getting people telling me what amazing changes are happening for them since reading the book. But I had to trust and believe in myself before I got the external confirmation.

I encourage you to trust in yourself and be confident in what you do for others in your own unique way. You are a one-off special. There is no-one else quite like you. But you must believe that too and reach out for help if you need it.
