Will your business last the distance?

weightsIf you didn’t do regular exercise and one day decided to cycle 55 miles it’s likely you’d collapse somewhere between 10-20 miles. However, if you exercised daily and gradually built up your cycling miles you’d make it.

Your business is the same. Just like your body, you business needs to be working on it’s goal(s) daily. Business owners get easily lost if they don’t and often find themselves chucking it all in and going back to full time employment.

In the book Successful Business Minds, I talk the reader through setting daily, weekly and monthly intentions. I give tips and techniques for you to do this and I practice them myself.

However, with the best will in the world, life sometimes gets in the way. We get excited over a project or the kids or pets get sick. And if it’s neither of those, I can guarantee it’s something that has took your attention away when you should have been checking in with your intentions, or maybe it was simply once of those days when you were feeling a bit low and just couldn’t find the enthusiam?

This is why it helps to have a network of people around us to (a) hold us to our intentions, and (b) keep our spirits up and encourage us. This is why regular catch ups are good with these people too.

I caught up with a client I hadn’t seen for a while. She explained to me that she had let her accounts slip and had been working late before our meeting to get them up to date. Later on she laughed saying that she only does her finances and thinks about her business when she knows she is seeing me. I hear this often from my clients which is why I encourage regular meetings.

Sadly, I am aware my time is limited and unable to have regular check ins with all my clients. Therefore earlier in 2016 I ran a pilot mastermind group and as it was so successful I am putting on two starting 5th September.

I am quite excited about this new venture. I love the mastermind groups I go to. They help me focus and keep me accountable to my intentions as does my coach too.

I know that you often know what you should be doing but well just sometimes you have a day off, or two. And that’s ok. But what can happen is that you forget to start again. As one client I recently coached on money said “I don’t use my credit card for weeks then I have to use it for something. Once I have done that I just go crazy with it because I feel it doesn’t matter, I’m screwed anyway”.

What’s important it not to fall into that mindset. Get yourself an accountability group, join a mastermind group and/or get yourself a coach. Your bank balance and your business will thank you for it.
