Do the 3 for 2 deals really save you money?

The answer all depends on what you were planning on buying.

They certainly save you money if you were planning on buying three of them. If you were planning on buying two, then they can still save you money if you can keep the 3rd one for another week (assuming it can be frozen or kept in the fridge/ cupboard) or you substitute the 3rd one for something else that you may have be buying that week. But if you waste that 3rd one then you haven’t saved anything, however, you haven’t spent any more either.

On the other hand, if you were only planning on buying one then it costs you money. We all like deals and offers and we like to think we have got a good deal, but the truth is we haven’t. Please note as a finance coach I know how much gets spent on these kind of deals and I am also speaking from experience of having more packs of yoghurt than I possible knew what to do with!

So if you want to save a few pennies on your weekly shopping then either only buy what is on your shopping list or if you do pick up a few 3 for 2 deals then make sure it is something that you can keep for a few weeks or substitute for another item, or two, on your shopping list.
