How can we make people’s lives better?

I was asked this question last night as my lift & I tried to brainstorm better ways the council could use traffic lights to navigate the rush hour traffic coming out the industrial estate we both work in but then my mind started to ask it for the bigger questions such as in our personal lives and in our business.

So how do you make people’s lives better in your business?

I’d like you to ask yourself that question as I believe it’s a better approach to asking why you do what you do. Ultimately you will be running a business as you are good at something and possibly either seen a gap in the market or you experienced some challenges, overcome them and now help others to do the same. However, I feel that doesn’t help our 4 minds get passionately motivated about it. Our 4 minds are our cognitive, emotional, somatic & intuitive minds – see Successful Business Minds for more information.

How do I make people’s lives better in their business?

For me I do many things but at the end of the day I help people sleep better and be happier with their business. If honest, I may give them a few sleepless nights too at first (but no different to the sleepless night they are already having…) as we first examine the numbers in their business. That’s where my role as accountant comes in but that’s not want I do best nor what helps them the most.

What I do best is the finance coaching which looks at their fears and anxieties around what they think of money, tax and success and help them through them. This was why I wrote Successful Business Minds. There are loads of decent accountants out there, but what I felt was missing was the next step in helping a business owner be successful in their life by having a business that contributed to their personal success.

At the end of the day, a figure we see in our business, it just a figure.

However, because of the beliefs we have and the experiences in our lives, we then give those figures meanings associated with the traditional money and success beliefs we have been led to adopt. Unfortunately those meaning can sometime stifle our finances and success or worse, sabotage them. Yet, as I explain in Successful Business Minds, we can look at money and success, in many ways.

I improve people’s lives by showing them another perspective, one that is aligned with who they want to be i.e. what their 4 minds truly want.

For example in chapter 3, I explain I once seen money as security and freedom whereas a client of mine seen it as suffocating and controlling. That to me, shows me how we can each look at something and see it from different perspectives.
