What behaviours do you repeat that could do with an upgrade?

The more times we do something, imagine something or visualise an event, it creates neural pathways in the brain.

This is why repeating a task gets easier and easier over time and why experiments have proven that muscles can be strengthened by just visualising doing a particular exercise.

This is useful when we find ourselves in situations that are similar to those we have experienced before, as we don’t need to think about what to do; our unconscious will automatically default to the behaviour that it has ‘recorded’ in the brain. This is great if we were happy about what we did or have imagined being amazing and acting confidently. However, this can have a negative effect, if it’s something we did that we don’t want to repeat or if we imagined everything going horribly wrong! When this happens we need to upgrade or change our ‘programming’.

For example, I went out for a ride on my old 125cc Yamaha motorbike on Saturday morning and because I am still a learner I am challenged with a few manoeuvres. My house is on a very steep hill and the drive approaches the road at an angle. I have stalled the bike a few times in the past coming out my drive, so I am always nervous but yesterday I stalled and fell off! Thankfully I recovered quickly, the bike was OK and as there were no cars nearby, I jumped back on and got going again. However, a few minutes later I sensed that I was quite nervous. I was aware that a part of my brain was replaying me falling off the bike over and over. I repeated to myself that I am confident rider whilst replaying images of me riding the bike feeling confident. The rest of the ride was great! I reminded myself of this when I got home and I will do so again before I get back on the bike.

This kind of thing happens in our everyday life and in 12 steps to Improve your Cashflow I introduce the concept of us replaying old behaviours we have adopted or learnt in reference to money and success based on something we experienced when younger. I talk more about this in my book Successful Business Minds but to enable you to get an insight into what your default behaviours are, in 12 steps to Improve your Cashflow I ask you to consider your thoughts and actions when you talk about money, spend money or think of yourself, and others, as successful.
